HENDERSON, KY - Lucille Wade Eakins, 100, Robards, died at 3 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, at her son’s home in Robards.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Robards. Lucille taught school in Owsley County, Ky., Niagara and Robards. She was later appointed by President Harry S. Truman as postmaster of the Robards Post Office, where she served more than 40 years until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Eakins, who died June 20, 1978; and her parents, Henry and Maude Wade.
Survivors include one son, Marion Lee Eakins III and his wife, Shirley, of Robards; two sisters, Mary Virginia Judd of Cincinnati, and Helon Fruit of Madisonville; one brother, Joe Wade of Florida; two grandchildren, Marcus Lee Eakins of Robards and Sondra Ann Neel of Niagara; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 26 at Eakins Cemetery on Kentucky 283 in Robards. Toy Powell and Dr. Hollis Marshall will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Riverview School or St. Anthony’s Hospice.
Pallbearers will be Don C. Gish, Hugh W. Sellers, Austin Overfield, Russell Ray Sights, Jackie Leeg and Gary Denton.
