HENDERSON, KY - Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Monday, July 26, 2010 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, Sgt. 1st Class John H. Jarrell, 32, of Brunson, S.C. died July 15 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
Burial services for Sgt. 1st Class Jarrell will be held on July 26 at noon Central time at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, Ky. Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day.
