One Tenth of a Second

HENDERSON, KY – If you’re a Kentucky Wildcat fan, then you understand that a tenth of a second means a lot.

The Kentucky Wildcats entered Sunday’s SEC Championship game against Mississippi State seeking an unprecedented 26th SEC title. Mississippi State, on the other hand, was simply hoping to play their way into the NCAA Tournament with a win over the Wildcats. Both teams played with tremendous passion and effort in what turned out to be an instant classic.

It was back and forth the entire way, each team hitting big shot after big shot. In the closing seconds of regulation Mississippi State held a 3-point lead and decided to foul freshman guard Eric Bledsoe for the Cats. He stepped up to the line and calmly knocked down the first free throw. He missed the second one on purpose giving the Cats a chance for an offensive rebound and the tie. John wall came up with the ball and missed a jump shot, but the sensational freshman Demarcus Cousins was right there for the follow through. The officials took their time reviewing the play, and finally they ruled the basket good sending this game into overtime. The ball left Cousins hand with one tenth of a second to go breaking the hearts of Bulldog fans everywhere.
In overtime both teams continued going back and forth with neither one really pulling away from the other, but John Wall hit an acrobatic 3 point jump shot with under 30 seconds to go that sealed the Bulldogs fate. Kentucky held on to miraculously win the SEC Championship for a 26th time in their storied history.
